Weather Advisory

From the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities…

An Excessive Heat Warning in effect from 11am this morning until 7pm this evening for the following counties in the KCII listening area: HENRY, JEFFERSON, LOUISA, and WASHINGTON.

Another day of dangerous heat… hot and humid conditions will occur today ahead of an incoming frontal system. Heat indices of 100 to around 110 degrees will make for oppressive outdoor conditions from late morning through the afternoon and into the early evening hours. There also will be a elevated risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke during these time frames… the elderly, small children, and pets are especially susceptible. The accumulative effect of several days in a row with this kind of heat and humidity will also be a factor.   Plan ahead… have a cool place to shelter from the heat… stay out of the sun and avoid outdoor activity during the midday and afternoon.. drink plenty of water… check on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside…Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in the shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
