The Farmer’s and Merchant’s Mutual Telephone Company of Wayland is among eight providers being ordered to refund access charges to Qwest, AT&T and Sprint. Iowa Utilities Board Spokesman Rob Hillesland says these access fees are paid when a customer using one of the long distance companies needs to access a user in the local provider’s network. Hillesland says in many instances, the IUB found that the calls in question did not terminate in an area that the local companies were certified to service.
