Despite the dropping temperatures, state health officials say mosquitoes are still active in southeast Iowa. The Iowa Department of Public Health says mosquitoes will continue to be present until the first frost of the year. Public Health Veterinarian Ann Garvey says it is important to protect yourself from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry like the West Nile Virus. She advises using mosquito repellant and eliminating their breeding areas.
