Iowa’s pheasant hunting season opens tomorrow (10/31), and area hunters could be in for a challenge. The Department of Natural Resources’Don Pfeifer conducts a pheasant count in a 25 mile locality each year. He says last year’s floods, a cool summer and a general decline in grassland have kept the bird population down. Despite the declining numbers, Iowa consistently draws more than 80-thousand hunters into the fields.
