With news of across the board state budget cuts, one local lawmaker says getting rid of unnecessary expenses is the key. Fairfield Senator Becky Schmitz says the legislature needs to shut down outdated programs that no longer work. She says a fiscally responsible budget should cut programs that are not needed while protecting things like student achievement, teacher quality, and health care. Schmitz says this will help give Iowa the biggest “bang for the buck”.
