The ninth ranked Washington Demon girls basketball team opens their season tonight on the road taking on 4A Ottumwa. Last year the Demons beat Ottumwa in Washington 49-27. Heading into this season Demon Head Coach Phil Long says he has an experienced group returning. The Demons were suppose to open last Friday against Williamsburg, but that was moved to December 10th when Williamsburg made the volleyball semifinals, otherwise the Raiders would have had only four days to prepare for the season. Long says being ranked in the top 10 in the preseason rankings means that teams will likely be gunning for them, but he says if the Demons can carry that ranking into the Christmas break and have a good early season run, it could mean a favorable draw when Regional pairings come out.
