The IMS cross country coach has been named Coach of the Year for his class. The Iowa Association of Track Coaches gave Marty Gingerich the award after his boys team won a conference championship, district championship, and state championship. The squad also had the boys individual champion in Bill Spencer. IMS Athletic Director Chris Nachtigall says Gingerich does an excellent job preparing the kids. Nachtigall says Gingerich is an avid runner himself, and he feels when kids see their coach out their running with them in practice it motivates them. In the eight years he’s coached cross country at IMS, he has taken three boys teams and two girls teams to state.
