Hotel Tax Referendum Fails

Voters in Washington have overwhelmingly said no to a hotel motel tax referendum. It failed by nearly 300 votes. Hawkeye Motel Owner Gordon Olberding had campaigned against the measure. He feels voters realized that Washington isn’t a tourist destination. Tourism committee member Gary McCurdy feels voters didn’t understand the benefits that increased visitor traffic could bring to the city.
