Iowa City saw the lowest percentage of voters in the last 30 years during yesterday’s elections. County Auditor Tom Slockett says as of 11:00 am yesterday, only 933 voters had gone to the polls, representing only 1.9-percent of registered voters. He says early voting numbers were also down, with only 1,065 Iowa City ballots returned as of 6:00 pm Monday. Slockett says these numbers are less than half of the turnout from the 1999 elections, which previously held the record for lowest turnout.
