A southeast Iowa state legislator says laws they passed this spring are starting to improve public safety. Fairfield Senator Becky Schmitz points to a measure that puts further restrictions on convicted sex offenders. Schmitz says other –quote-“smart laws” include one that strengthens anti-meth policies by creating a statewide database, and one that expands efforts to prevent human trafficking.
