The state volleyball champions were crowned over the weekend. The tournament began on Wednesday in Cedar Rapids and concluded on Saturday. In Class 1A, Tripoli beat Schaller-Crestland in three. In 2A, Mount Vernon won pretty easily in three over Sheldon. It was a close match in 3A, where Waverly-Shell Rock, the team that knocked Williamsburg out, beat Sioux City Bishop Heelan in five. The third game went all the way up to 31-29 with Waverly Shellrock taking that game. Heelan won the fourth to force the fifth game and Waverly-Shellrock took the fifth 17-15. Finally in 4A, Ankeny beat Iowa City West in four. Williamsburg Sophomore Mackenzie Bigbee made all-tournament.
