Washington County’s State Court Office is losing a court attendant as part of the judicial branch’s efforts to reduce operating costs. Washington County Clerk of Court Julie Johnson says the position acts as a sort of court traffic director, informing people where they need to go and at what time. Johnson does not expect the position to be reinstated. In all, Iowa’s Judicial Branch is losing 9.3% of its workforce. This is on top of ten furlough days and unpaid leave for judges, magistrates and all court employees.
