Press play to hear from the DNR’s Don Pfeiffer

A disease affecting deer has some Iowans concerned this hunting season. However Don Pfieffer with the state department of natural resources says there have not been any positive samples of Chronic Wasting Disease in Iowa deer. CWD is a neurological disease in deer, similar to Mad Cow disease. Pfieffer says because of the extensive sampling done in each county in Iowa, the DNR can be 99 point five percent sure if it does show up here, they will detect it. CWD is in the wild population in southwest Wisconsin and north central and northeast Illinois.
