For the second straight season the Demons girls and the Williamsburg Raiders needed overtime to decide things. The ninth ranked Washington Demon girls came out a little sluggish at Williamsburg last night after not being able to practice much of the week because of snow. The Raiders jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first quarter, the Demons narrowed the gap and it was 13-10 Raiders after one. In the second quarter the Demons had a couple of leads but mostly it was the Raiders who had a two or three point lead. It was tied at halftime at 24 and the Raiders took a 32-27 lead into the fourth. In the fourth with 12 seconds left Raider point guard Hannah Wilson had chance to put her team by four but missed the second so Williamsburg led by three and after the miss Cassey Sobaski was able to hit a buzzer beat three to force overtime. In overtime with Washington’s Sobaski and Lucy Libe playing with four fouls Demon Head Coach Phil Long wanted to slow things down and eat up some clock the only problem was Williamsburg got a couple of scores and the Demons on drives to the bucket couldn’t get a couple of foul calls on physical plays and the Raiders won 54-50. For Washington Sobaski had 17 Jonte Thornton had 9, Lucy Libe and Caitlin Fishback each had 8 Libe had a big three late in the fourth. Williamsburg was led by Mackenzie Bigbee who 22 points including some clutch free throws. Williamsburg is now 1-3 on the season, the Demons fall to 3-1.
