press play to hear from filmmaker Curt Ellis

A documentary centered on Iowa’s agricultural runoff will soon play in the state capital. “Big River: A King Corn Companion,” looks at fertilizer and chemical runoff from Iowa corn fields. The film follows the runoff to the Gulf of Mexico where many believe it is responsible for creating an aquatic dead zone. Filmmaker Curt Ellis says they’re not trying to point fingers at farmers, but highlight how important it is to scrutinize the safety of farm chemicals. Ellis would also like to see help for producers to find a way to minimize ecological impacts. The federal government recently announced more than 300 million dollars will be available to help reduce fertilizer run-off in the Mississippi River Basin.
