The Iowa Department of Public Health is reminding Iowans of an often overlooked winter weather threat: carbon monoxide. Medical Director Dr. Patricia Quinlisk says if stranded in a car, it’s important to make sure you have access to fresh air. She says CO poisoning can be fatal in high concentrations. She says it’s important to make sure exhaust pipes are free from snow before starting your vehicle and not to site in a parked vehicle with the engine running, unless a window is cracked.
