The ‘best of the best’ are being recognized in Iowa. 1000 Friends of Iowa honors development projects every year for design, sustainability, and preservation qualities, and this year, a new category was added for best new commercial project. The winner in that division is the Marshalltown Public Library. Library director Carole Winkelblack says the priorities they laid out for the new building were things like water use, using recycled materials, and good energy use. They also use a photovoltaic array on the roof that provides part of their energy for the building.
