Mary Ann Drain, age 62, of Washington, Iowa died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at her residence following a short illness.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm Saturday at Jones – Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. A time of sharing and celebrating Mary Ann’s life will begin at 2:00 pm. Private family interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Mary Ann was born March 23, 1947 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the daughter of Lester T. and Catherine Margaret (Hayes) Boege. She attended school in Cedar Falls, Iowa and graduated from Columbus High School in Waterloo. Mary Ann attended Clarke College, the University of Northern Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa. On August 17, 1968 she was united in marriage to Ted Drain in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Mary Ann taught Kindergarten at St. James Catholic School from 1981 to 1995. She later owned and operated MAD’s Business Solutions until her retirement in 2007. She was involved in many local organizations including Rotary where she was Past President and Treasurer, Main Street Board of Directors, where she served as Treasurer, Washington Betterment Foundation, Beta Sigma Phi, and previously served on the Foster Care Review Board. She served on the Property and Zoning committee in Washington. Mary Ann enjoyed reading and participating in a local book club.

She is survived by her husband, Ted Drain of Washington, Iowa; son, Ted Drain and wife Tracy of Santa Clarita, California; daughter, Katie Greving and husband Brian of Urbandale, Iowa; two grandchildren, Alex and Natalie of Urbandale, Iowa; two sisters, Karen Kuehl of Plover, Wisconsin; and Nancy Beck and her husband Leon of St. Paul, Minnesota; mother-in-law, Athena Drain of Washington; as well as a sister-in-law Connie Boege of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Ann Francis Drain; one brother, Tim Boege; and her father-in-law, Robert H. Drain.
