Mary KaufmanMary Lou Kaufman, age 86, of Washington, Iowa died Tuesday December 15, 2009 at the United Presbyterian Home following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, December 19th at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones – Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Friday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established to United Presbyterian Home, United Presbyterian Church or to the WCCWD (Washington County Citizens with Disabilities.) Mary Lou was born February 15, 1923 in Rogers, Arkansas the daughter of John Merric and Addie Mae (Creech) Goodwin. Mary Lou attended school in Arkansas and in Washington, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Archie Jacob Kaufman on December 20, 1940 in Washington, Iowa. Mary Lou was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the family farming operation. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington. She was a Deacon of the Presbyterian Church and was active in the church circles. Mary Lou was active in the A.R.C. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading, baking, sewing, crocheting, and needlework.

Mary Lou is survived by her son, Ronald Kaufman and wife Janet of Wellman, Iowa; son, Wayne Kaufman and wife Becky of Washington, Iowa; son, Louis Kaufman and wife Liza of Urbandale, Iowa; daughter, Donna Kaufman of Washington, Iowa; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and her brother, Mel Goodwin of Sun City, Arizona.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2000, four sisters, Maurine, Florene, Evelyn, Johnetta; two brothers, Glen and Kenneth; and two great grandchildren.
