A southeast Iowa state lawmaker says the legislature will not dip in to the school infrastructure local option tax. Fairfield Senator Becky Schmitz says the fund is vital to rural school districts. Schmitz says it will be a challenging budget year for Iowa school districts, especially those with declining enrollments. Roughly 70 percent of the state’s districts are facing that scenario.
