press play to hear from State Climatologist Harry Hillaker

2009 was a wet year. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says precipitation was nearly six inches above normal, making it the 12th wettest on record. The trend lasted into the end of the year. Hillaker says a very snowy winter in 2007 and 2008 was one of the precursors to the record flooding. 2009 was also a colder than normal. Much of the Midwest saw the coldest July on record. Statewide average temperatures for the year were a little more than a degree below normal.
