The Iowa Hawkeyes used two early touchdown passes and strong defense to get in front of Georgia Tech and win the school’s first BCS bowl in school history. Iowa quarterback Rick Stanzi returning to the line up coming off an ankle injury threw two touchdowns and had one picked off late in the first quarter and returned for a touchdown to make it 14-7 after one, that would be the score at halftime. In the third the Hawks added a field goal to go up 17-7. Georgia Tech scored a touchdown early in the in the fourth quarter to pull within three, but the Hawkeyes got a key stop and a touchdown with just under two minutes left to ice it 24-14. It was technically Iowa’s first BCS bowl win and their first big bowl win since 1959 win they won the Rose Bowl. The Hawkeyes end the season at 11-2
