Local Communities Receving “Branching Out” Grant

Several southeast Iowa communities are getting part of nearly $135,000 being dolled out by Trees Forever and Alliant Energy through the “Branching Out” program. It’s a nationally recognized effort to fund tree planting projects, energy efficiency and environmental awareness. The city of Wayland will receive f$5,000, Brighton will get $1,000, and Washington will receive $2,500.

Mid-Prairie girls beat North Cedar with big 4th quarter

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks had a make up date with North Cedar for a boy-girl doubleheader. In the girls game the Golden Hawks had a big fourth quarter scoring more points in the fourth than they did in the first three. Mid-Prairie went into the fourth down, but in the last four minutes Mid-Prairie outscored North Cedar 14-4.
