press play to hear from Senator Becky Schmitz

As a key member of the Iowa Senate’s Education Committee, Fairfield Senator Becky Schmitz has been involved in several significant pieces of legislation introduced this session. One would require school districts to spend down cash reserves before raising property taxes. Another measure changes how home school assistance programs are funded. Schmitz says the state is also hoping to get some federal education dollars from the Race to the Top program. Some school districts have said the program’s guidelines are too vague.
