Arctic high pressure building into the area will bring bitter cold temperatures today and tonight. Temperatures in the single digits, combined with brisk northwest winds, will result in wind chills as low as zero to 20 below today. Tonight, temperatures will drop to between 5 below to near 20 below zero. This will result in wind chills as low as 20 to 30 below zero.

While the snow has subsided, travel is still hazardous. The Iowa Department of Transportation reports that most state highways are snow packed and difficult to travel. Interstate 80 between the Quad Cities and Highway 63 is listed in Fair Condition.

The Iowa Department of Transportation and Iowa Operation Lifesaver insist motorists use extra caution at intersections where visibility may be obstructed by snow mounds s. President of Iowa Operation Lifesaver Francis Edeker says drivers should approach rail crossings with extra caution during the winter, when snow mounds may obstruct the view of an approaching train.
