Washington School Board members will decide this week whether the district should take part in Race to the Top. Superintendent Dave Sextro says it’s a competitive grant program funded by last year’s stimulus package. Sextro says he’s recommending Washington get on board. He says there is some resistance to that idea, in part because the first round of stimulus money was mired in confusion and red tape. However, Sextro says many of the goals laid out by the grant are one’s being pursued by the Washington School District anyway. He says it would be nice to have a slice of the more than four billion dollars being dolled out by Race to the Top.
