Alice L. Herbert, age 87, of Washington died Sunday January 31, 2010 at the Washington Care Center following a decline in health.

Memorial services will be Thursday, February 4, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Memorials in her name have been established at the United Methodist Church in Washington and Hospice of Washington County. Alice was born on November 12, 1922 in Allerton, Iowa the daughter of John and Blanche (Lane) Sinclair. She attended high school in Allerton, Iowa and graduated from Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri. Alice was united in marriage to Rev. John C. “J.C.” Herbert of Mound City, Missouri on September 15, 1945. They lived most of their married life in Ohio and Alice taught elementary school in Germantown and Roundhead, Ohio for 22 years prior to retiring. She was active in all areas of church life especially focusing on ministries to women and children. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and creating floral arrangements for church and friends.

Alice is survived by three children, Joseph Herbert of Irving, Texas; daughter, Anne Herbert of San Francisco, California; and Susan Williams of Russell, Kentucky; two grandchildren; her sisters Clara Blair of New Castle, Pennsylvania and Jean Skillings of Springfield, Missouri; and her brothers John Sinclair of Allerton, Iowa and Robert Sinclair of Sullivan, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 2005.
