The Washington Demon boys started slow but got things going in the second half to beat Keokuk in the opening round of the post season last night. The Chiefs led early 7-2 but the Demons had it tied at 11 going into the second and went in at halftime up 23-17. The Cheifs would come out in the third and recapture the lead but there was a swing where Isaac Gardner hit a three, got a slam dunk after a Demon steal, then a violation on the inbound gave the Demons back the ball and he hit another three. An Alex Vogel buzzer beater three to end the third quarter sent the Demons into the final frame up 46-40 and the Demons 19 points in the fourth and won 65-57. In the game Isaac Gardner scored 20 points hitting four threes and scored his 1,000th career point becoming the fourth Demon to do so and Smeins says it looks like he did so in a shorter time frame only playing three years. Nic Williams had a big night in the post with 19, and Alex Vogel who has the career assist record had 13 points with two threes and went 10-10 at the free throw line. The Demons are now 16-6 and they face Mount Pleasant on Thursday in Burlington. Mount Pleasant beat Fort Madison 61-33. That game started a little slow too, with Mount Pleasant only up 20-14 at halftime.
