In girls basketball, Class 1A and 2A had regional semifinals games last night which is two games away from the state tournament. First in Class 1A, the Highland Huskies were battling 7th ranked and unbeaten North Mahaska in Wellman. The Huskies were up 30-20 at halftime but the Warhawks fought back in the third and going into the fourth the Huskies were up 44-38. In the fourth Highland struggled to get points only scoring a free throw and a field goal in the fourth quarter while the Warhawks were able to find some points and won 52-47. For Highland, Anna Sweeting ended up with 21 points, and Kayla Schneider had 11. The Huskies end their season 18-7. North Mahaska will now face Prince of Peace for the right to go to state. Prince of Peace beat Midland 64-60.
In Class 2A, the Sigourney Savages went up to Tiffen to face Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon has been a strong 3A team and moved down to 2A this year. Last night Mount Vernon won 61-27, so they move on and face Cascade for the right to head to the state tournament.
