Iowa’s unemployment rate has been consistently lower than the rest of the country during this currant recession. Director of Iowa Workforce Development Elisabeth Buck says one of the reasons Iowa is three percentage points lower than the national average is because over the last decade Iowa has diversified its economy in terms of insurance, financial , health sectors, manufacturing, agriculture and green jobs. She says the economy is no longer based on a single sector of work. Buck says Iowa also shines because of the quality of their workers when it comes to education and high skills.
