A bill that aims to save money by reorganizing state government could have a significant impact in Washington County. One proposal on the table would move the Empowerment program from under the jurisdiction of the department of management, to the department of education. Washington County Public Health Administrator Edie Nebel says about $200,000 of their budget is funded through Empowerment. She’s concerned that the shift could mean, programs like Parents as Teachers, preschool scholarships and dental care would suffer.
