Teachers in the Washington School District are asking for a 4.4% raise in the coming fiscal year. In a contract proposal presented to the school board this week, the union also asks for an additional seven days time off for illness of an immediate family member. They are also seeking to remove language in the contract that says extra duty assignments will be a determining factor when the district is forced to let a teacher go due to budget constraints. Board members have until February 24th to respond to the proposal.
