A fire yesterday destroyed a tire shop in Kalona. Firefighters were called to Kalona Tire just before noon. Assistant Kalona Fire Chief Richard Brenneman says the blaze took about four hours to extinguish. He says they had to deal with burning tires and insulation and had to get into the building through the walls to put out the fire. Brenneman says the building is considered a “total loss.” Employees at the store were able to escape without injury. Crews from Alliant Energy also had to shut down power to much of Kalona last night as a result of the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
