The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team we’ll be in action at the Boys State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines. The Hawks take on defending state champs Solon, who comes in with only two losses. Mid-Prairie Head Coach Don Showalter says heading in the two schools know each other well having played in the Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference. Mid-Prairie is responsible for one of Solon’s two losses. The Hawks went to Solon just before the Christmas break and won 55-52. Showalter feels that win will help in his team’s mindset heading into today’s game. Tip off is set for 1:45 pm.
Also tonight, the Mount Pleasant Panthers will be in action. The Panthers enter the tournament 21-1 with their only loss coming to Marion. They will face 19-5 Epworth out of Western Dubuque. The Panthers got to state beating the Washington Demons in the district final and then beating Williamsburg at sub-state.
The other 3A games today feature Forest City taking on Pella, and Carroll playing the defending champs Sioux City Bishop Heelan.
