At the Iowa Girls State Basketball Tournament yesterday it was semifinal games for Class 1A. In the first game Exira moved past Newell-Fonda 70-58. Exira was led by Hall Christofferson with 33 points as they remain unbeaten on the season. In the other semi, Mount Ayr beat Martensdale-St. Mary 57-48. So Exira 25-0 will play Mount Ayr 26-1 for the 1A title tomorrow evening. Class 2A and 3A semis will be played today in 2A Manson-Northwest Webster will face OA-BCIG and Mount Vernon, the team that came out of Mid-Prairie and Sigourney’s regional, will play Roland-Story. In the 3A semis, Bishop Heelan plays defending state champs Ballard, this is a rematch of last year’s title game, and Waukon faces Algona. Algona is unbeaten on the season, the rest of the schools have one loss. Class 1A and 2A championship games are tomorrow and 3A and 4A are Saturday.
