At the girls state basketball tournament in Des Moines, Mount Vernon moves on and Assumption is out. In Class 2A, Mount Vernon was the team that came out of Sigourney and Mid-Prairie’s regional. Yesterday the Mustangs beat Audubon in overtime 52-45. In the other 2A game played yesterday Roland-Story beat Camanche 38-31. In Class 3A, Davenport Assumption, the team that beat the Demons in the regional final to get to state, lost to Ballard 56-52. In the other 3A games, Bishop Heelan beat Marion 69-61, Waukon knocked off Knoxville 61-50, Algona beat Storm Lake 57-49. So in the semis it will be Heelan and Ballard two teams with only one loss on the season. In the other, Waukon who has one loss takes on unbeaten Algona.
