A southeast Iowa state lawmaker says an 18% hike in insurance rates from Wellmark serves as a reminder that some sort of healthcare reform is needed. Fairfield Senator Becky Schmitz says they can’t wait for action on the federal level. Schmitz blames the Wellmark increases on “corporate greed.” She says she’s supporting Senate File 2201, which aims to make insurers more accountable when it comes to rates and profits.
