A group of parents would like to see changes to the way sex education is taught at the Columbus School District. They’re proposing an alternative sex education program called Equipping Youth, which has a more abstinence based message. Superintendent Rich Bridenstine says the curriculum used now is developed by the Iowa State Extension Service, and mentions abstinence, as well as safe sex and how to handle pressure situations. The board is scheduled to hear the presentation of the abstinence based curriculum from the parents group on Monday at 6:30 at the Roundy Elementary Library in Columbus Junction.
