Beginning Monday, the Iowa Department of Transportation is ending the “over the counter” issuance of driver licenses and non-operator identification cards and switch to a system known as “central issuance.” The DOT will also begin issuing new driver licenses and ID’s that are to offer greater security and are made with more durable materials. The change will occur at all 19 DOT driver’s license stations and in all 81 county treasurer offices that issue driver licenses and ID’s.
