Iowa Corn Estimates Down, Hawkeye State Still Leads Nation

The latest statistics from the USDA indicate Iowa farmers intend to plant 13.5 million acres of corn this year. That’s down about one-percent versus last year. John Griener is a grain merchandiser with Katt’s Grain in Washington. He says a higher than usual carryover from last year’s harvest is one possible reason for the decreased corn acreage estimate. Nationwide, corn planting expectations are up. Griener says demand for ethanol is one likely reason.
