A meteorologist with WeatherEye says fireballs like the one that streaked across the night sky in the Midwest this week are fairly common. Laura Lockwood says such events occur on average about once a week. She says sometimes it happens over an ocean, or unpopulated area and goes unnoticed. Lockwood says the meteor that exploded over southern Wisconsin Wednesday glowed nearly as bright as a full moon.
