Practice Safe Grilling

Warming weather means more people are grilling. The National Fire Protection Association is reminding outdoor cooks to exercise caution this season. In 2007, nearly 10-thousand people were hospitalized due to burns caused by grills. The NFPA says when lighting a grill, make sure it is well away from buildings, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging tree branches. They say it’s important to keep children and pets away from the grill area by declaring a three foot “kid-free-zone” around the grill. They also say it’s a good idea to use long handled grilling utensils to give the chef plenty of clearance from heat and flames. In addition, remove grease or fate build up from the grills trays and below the grill so it can’t accidentally ignite, and never leave the grill unattended.
