The economic recession might have had silver lining for small communities such as Washington. That’s according to the chamber of commerce. Executive Director Tim Coffey says many people couldn’t afford to travel last summer, and chose to vacation a little closer to home. He says close to 60-percent of tourism in Iowa in 2008 was the equivalent of a one day trip.
