press play to hear from Washington City Councilor Fred Stark

A member of the Washington City Council is taking issue with a report from the Iowa Department of Transportation that calls for raising the speed limit on East Washington Street. The 4th ward’s Fred Stark is concerned because the street runs in front of the UP Home, and a lot of elderly residents cross the street their. Stark says the city should put the safety of its citizens first. Other council members point out that the city really has no say because east Washington Street is part of highway 92, a state highway. The DOT’s proposal would raise the speed limit from 30 to 35 miles per hour.
