press play to hear from DHS’s Marc Baty

The Iowa Department of Human Services’ region that includes Washington County is expected to lose 50-60 employees to early retirement. This combined with a move to centralize some divisions of the agency and an unknown financial future means DHS is facing a massive overhaul. 23 offices, including Washington County, are switching to a by appointment only basis. Marc Baty, who oversees the DHS’s southeast region. says while this shift might seem dramatic, the future could bring more cutbacks. Baty says Iowa is expected to face a billion dollar budget gap in 2012. Baty addressed Washington County Supervisors at this morning’s meeting.
