press play to hear from WACO School Board President JoEllen Jepson

WACO’s Superintendent is leaving at the end of this school year. Greg Ray says he’s accepted a job offer as superintendent in Mediapolis.

He says it’s a good move for him professionally.

Ray says smaller school districts like WACO and Mediapolis will continue to face challenges in the future in the face of shrinking enrollment and increasing costs.

Ray has been with WACO for nearly two years. His contract is up this summer.

WACO School Board President JoEllen Jepson says they feel the board has three options at this point.

One is to do a search and hire a new Superintendent. The second would be to fill the position on an interim basis. And the third would be to share Superintendents with another school district.

She says they hope to make the decision at the next school board meeting on Monday, April 19th.
