One of the most popular conservation programs operated by the U.S.D.A. is the Conservation Stewardship Program. Thousands of Iowa farmers take advantage of it, and now is when the window of opportunity is open for sign-up for this fiscal year. Traci Bruckner with the Center for Rural Affairs says it’s a program that helps the best conservation projects thrive. She says farmers, ranchers and others should call the Center for Rural Affairs’ Farm Bill Helpline to learn more about the program and the application process. The program pays producers for clean water, better soil management, improved habitat, energy efficiency, and other natural resource benefits that go beyond the farm.
