School will soon be out, but the Washington County Extension has a number of day camps planned to keep kids busy during the summer months. There geared towards kindergarteners through fifth graders. They all begin in mid to late June and are limited to 20 registrations for each day. Cost is ten dollars per camp. Visit the extension’s website for details on which camps for which age groups will be held.  Below is a listing of the camps


“Welcome to the Jungle” day camp is for youth who will be entering kindergarten in the fall of 2010.  Youth have the choice of attending one of two days: Friday, June 18 at Marr Park or Friday, June 25 at Kalona City Park.  Both days will offer the same fun and will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Youth will join us on a jungle safari as we discover wild animals and cool habitat.  They will be creating and playing as they immerse themselves in jungle life.

“Bug Mania” day camp will be held for youth who have completed Kindergarten and 1st grade as of June 2010.  Dates to attend this camp are Monday, June 21 at Kalona City Park or Tuesday, June 22 at Marr Park.  Youth will hunt for bugs, learn about how bugs move, play games and play with giant creepy crawlers from the ISU Insect Zoo.

“Fizz, Bubble, Goo” day camp is for youth who have completed 2nd and 3rd grades as of June 2010.  Youth may attend on Tuesday, June 29 at Marr Park or Thursday, July 1 at Kalona City Park.  This camp is perfect for those who love experiments.  Youth with build bubble blowers, make all kinds of goo, garbage can root beer, discover what makes things pop, all kinds of fun experiments.

“Weather Detectives” day camp will be held for youth who have completed 4th and 5th grades by June 2010.  The date for this camp is Wednesday, July 7 at Marr Park.  This camp will be an action-packed adventure in science.  Youth will explore what causes weather, what is climate and why weather is different in different parts of the world.

Space is limited to 20 registrations for each day.  Information and registrations are available at the Washington County Extension Office and on the web at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/washington. Registration is due by June 10 and is on a first come basis.  The cost is $10.00 per camp.
