The U.S. Census Bureau is conducting door-to-door follow-ups, and wants to make sure people are able to identify a census worker. They say a census worker must present an ID badge with the Department of Commerce logo and provide their name. They will also carry a black canvass bag with the department of commerce logo. Census takers will not ask to come into someone’s home or for social security numbers, bank account information or credit card numbers. They will not ask for any information that the census doesn’t ask for. All U.S. Census Bureau employees have taken an oath and are subject to 5 years in prison and or a 250 thousand dollar fine if they disclose any information that could identify you or your household.
