The Iowa Youth Advisory Council is taking applications for next year. State Senator Becky Schmitz says council members are involved in a variety community service projects and receive training on underage drinking and dropout prevention. Schmitz says the council is a great way for young people to develop leadership skills. The organization also advises lawmakers on issues that affect young Iowans. 21 members between the ages of 14 and 20 make up the council. Members serve two year terms. The deadline to apply is June 11. For more information email SIYAC@Iowa.gov.
